Inside Gideon & Milo
Turn a children’s book into a shared-reading gift by adding a short personal note, a bookmark and an invitation to read together. Keep the extra materials simple so the story remains the center of the gift.
Gideon, Milo, and the Great Shadow is the first Gideon & Milo book by Lester C. Lacey, published by Julian Publishing. It introduces Gideon, a boy, and Milo, his Yorkshire terrier. Explore the Book 1 page to decide whether the story suits the intended reader.
Choose the book for the reader
Think about the child’s interests, the way they enjoy stories and whether someone will read alongside them. The series is presented for ages 6–15 with flexible reading support. That is a broad audience guide; it is not a promise that every reader will read the book independently or enjoy the same kind of story.
Add a note that invites a shared moment
Try: “I thought we could explore this story together. When we read it, I would love to hear which picture you want to look at again.” This is an example gift message, not a quotation from the book. Write your own version on a card if you prefer to leave the book unmarked.
Include a bookmark with one question
Use a plain strip of paper or choose from the printable bookmarks. On the back, write “What did you notice?” or leave space for the reader to draw something. An adult should handle cutting. Avoid adding so many activities that opening the gift feels like starting an assignment.
Make the invitation easy to accept
Suggest a flexible time to read, such as the next visit or a quiet afternoon. Let the reader choose whether to listen, look at pictures, read a passage or save the story for later. The Parent Read-Aloud Guide offers a simple way to begin.
Is this a gift bundle sold by the publisher?
